Ms. Sooyeon Lee is the second prize and audience prize winner of the 2015 ARD Gesangwettbewerb, where she performed with the Bayerischer Rundfunk orchester.
For the 2016/17 season Sooyeon Lee joins the ensemble of Staatstheater Oldenburg, and will be heard during that season as Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Woglinde (Rheingold) and Frasquita (Carmen).
South Korean Soprano Sooyeon Lee graduated with distinction from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, where she obtained a Master‘s degree in opera under Beverly Blankenship and Peter Marschik. Upon graduation, she continued her studies under Gabriele Fontana and Edith Lienbacher.
In addition to her recent awards at the ARD Gesangwettbewerb, Ms. Lee has won numerous other competitions, including the Berlin International Music Competition, The Gian Battista Viotti Competition, Pavarotti Giovani Awards, Beaumarchais International Music Competition in Vienna and the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. Her stage appearances include Gilda in Verdi‘s Masterpiece Rigoletto in Korea, and Adele in J. Strauß‘ operetta Die Fledermaus at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn. Other roles while at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst include Olympia (Les Contes d‘Hoffmann), Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), and Musetta (La Bohème). At a lunch concert with the Berlin Philharmonic, she sang Brahms‘ „Liebesliederwalzer“. In November 2014 she gave a solo concert as a Keumho Young Artist in South Korea.
