Laura Olivia Spengel, the mezzo-soprano with polish roots was born in Berlin in 1989. She started her musical education in an early age. She was a longtime member of the Berlin Children's Choir. Since 2004 she is living in Austria, where she first studied musicology at the University of Vienna.
She continued studying singing at the Vienna Conservatory with KS Gabriele Sima and her mother Grazyna Wojtanowska. During her studies she already performed as Hansel in Humperdings "Hansel and Gretel" and as a sister Clara in Poulenc's "Dialogues of the Carmelites" in the Theatre “Akzent”. In addition, she completed her singing education with various master classes, among others with KS Marjana Lipovsek, Enrico Facini, Angelika Kirchschlager and Lorenzo Regazzo.
2013 she won the 1st International Concours Beaumarchais of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Mozart House. In 2014 she performed at several festivals such as the Festival Langenlois and the Bruckner Festival in Linz.
In January 2015 she won the ORF Songbook Project and has worked on this occasion with Oscar winner Michael Haneke on a classic video clip. In the summer of 2015 she was a fellow at the Bayreuth Festival and finalist at the International Music Competition Osaka in Japan. In January 2016 she sang with the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra the traditional New Years’ concerts.
As part of a scholarship program she sang a concert in February this year at the Vienna State Opera. In 2016 she received a scholarship to the prestigious Lied Akademie of Heidelberger Frühling and participated in master classes with Thomas Hampson and KS Brigitte Fassbänder and at several concerts of international festivals. In August 2016 Laura Olivia Spengel was awarded at the international competition "Accademia Belcanto”.
In November 2016 she made her Korea debut at the closing ceremony concert of the Daegu Opera House with big success.
In December she returned to Korea to perform at the Chistmas Gala with the Prime Philharmonic Orchstera in Seoul alongside Haeran Hong, Tae-Joong Yang a. o.
In March 2017 she was awarded the Golden Medal in the voice section of the International Berliner Competition.
Since four years she has been a member of the Society "Live Music Now" founded by Yehudi Menuhin, with whom she participates regularly in charitable concerts.
