Zia Hyunsu Shin, a violinist that represents the Republic of Korea, has settled down majestically on the world classical music scene with her profounder capability on violin performance. Winning the top honor at France Long-Thibaud International Music Competition that takes pride in its world-class authority in 2008, she has conquered 4 awards from orchestra award, recital award and the highest award that the students of Conservatoire de Paris select, and ranked number three at Queen Elisabeth International Competition in 2012. Since 2015, she has worked as an MC of <The Concert> of KBS classic music program, at which she has taken a very active and rare part as a violinist.
With Zia’s ranking number one at Korean Daily Report Competition in 1997, she has displayed her outstanding performances after winning the first place in the Korea Competition for Young Performers in 2001 and the Gran Prix (the award given by the Minister of Culture and Tourism). While she was at the first grade in Jeonju Fine Arts High School, she entered early as a young talent of Korea National University of Arts, and thereinafter, she swept innumerable international competitions with an astounding speed from the third place and the award for the youngest performer of Italia Paganini International Competition (there was no one winning the top honor) in 2004, the third place of Swiss Thibaud Bhaga International Competition in 2005, the third place of Finland Sibelius International Competition in 2005, the second place and audience award of Germany Hannover International Competition in 2006, the fifth place of Russian Tchaikovsky Competition in 2007, and won four awards at Long Thibaud Competition.
Zia Hyunsu Shin, collaborating with Washington National Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. performed a duo recital after being invited with Lim Dong Hyeok at Argerich Festival held in Beppu, Japan in April 2010. Following that, she showed her majestic status as a Korean musician by participating in “Asian Games Concert: Music for Sports & Harmony” that UNESCO has prepared to congratulate 2010 Guangzhou Asian Game. In 2012, she collaborated with the maestro Daniel Harding in Japan and the maestro Gilbert Bhaga in Mexico, and is still on her way of getting engaged in varied musical activities such as recitals and ensembles, etc. through music festivals in and out of Korea such as Copenhagen Music Festival and Pyeongchang Music Festival and School, etc.
In February 2015, she performed at the recital of Seoul Arts Center along with her release of a music album <Canto Antigo>, gathering and arranging folk songs throughout the world, and in June, she finalized her Shubert Recital. She performed Beethoven triple concerto with Maestro Chung Myung Hun and Cellist Mischa Maisky in September as collaboration with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and in June 2016, she performed Beethoven recital in LG Art Center.
Zia Hyunsu Shin started to play violin from the time she was 4 years old, and entered preschool of Korea National University of Arts when she was ten, and studied under Professor Kim Nam Yun at Korea National University of Arts. She is using Sanctus Serephin made in 1737 by Sooyoung Art Trade at present.
